As clinical doctors, we must not look at the tumors only without looking at the person who is burdened by the tumors. The existence and size of tumor are not necessarily proportionate to the length of survival period. The target of our treatment is the patients. They are human beings! Hence our treatment should be people-centred. We have to adopt a comprehensive approach so that we “won’t miss the forest for the trees.” For advanced cancer patients, our main goal is to prolong their lives and provide them with better quality of life. We would like to see that in the face of death they will continue to live with dignity, joy and thankfulness.
We hope the following chapters of this book will help to inspire you to win the war on cancer.
