I’m a researcher in infectious diseases and served as Minister of Health. As a researcher, I have met and worked with Chinese doctors several times. On the whole, I’m impressed that they are very confident who have the courage to try new things. But since the medical standards in Europe and America prevail, their findings are often not accepted by the medical community. As a researcher, I never had a chance to visit any hospitals in China.
It is my fate that I have cancer and it is late stage. Time is a luxury for me because I could not have more. My husband and I had fully considered all kinds of medical approaches, medical sites and advice of my colleagues, finally we chose Fuda Cancer Hospital, Professor Xu Kecheng and the medical team led by him.
I’m not going to tell about my illness and its treatments, everything is just beginning. It is premature to appraise any treatment results. What I want to talk about here is the impression that Fuda Cancer Hospital gives me during my treatment period.
What impressed me most was the democratic atmosphere in the hospital. My husband and I were invited to attend every discussion conducted by Professor Xu and the medical group concerning my illness and treatment. All doctors (they are younger than Professor Xu) fully expressed their views without any hesitation. Dr. Barlian helped me in interpretation. Not only treatment approach but also treatment procedures were well discussed, which made every discussion intense. I felt admiration for Professor Xu and the medical group because they even asked for my husband’s and my opinions. This phenomenon shows it more democratic than that in Indonesian hospitals.
I do not know whether my case is easy or difficult to treat, but it is certain that the treatment is not simple. Professor Xu, the medical group and the nursing group fully grasped my condition. The doctor in charge always took the time to explain the medical approach and procedure to me before performing any treatments. Doctor’s frankness, communication, wisdom and gentleness make patients feel comfortable and confident because they think a responsible doctor could provide them with scrupulous care and correct treatment, which also plays a considerable impact on patient’s rehabilitation.
My husband, the Indonesian medical group and I have learned a lot from Fuda Cancer Hospital and Professor Xu Kecheng, which include advanced techniques, innovative spirit (against the trend), and even ordinary matters such as ward arrangements, nursing care, blood drawing and injection administration. All the medical care and services are so impressive, which is a good example. I have arranged several hospitals in Indonesia to cooperate with Fuda Cancer Hospital so that we can start to develop new cancer therapies in Indonesia, from which cancer patients can really benefit.
“Allah will not give his people the test they cannot bear, gifts of God, regardless of happiness, honor or illness are all intent. The cancer given to me may be an order for me, commanding me to remove the threat of cancer for the Indonesian people. I accepted this fact with a grateful heart. Thank you to my husband and children’s journey with me in the struggle of my life, Professor Xu Kecheng and his medical team, Indonesian presidential medical team, the General Hospital team of Indonesian Army and RS Gading Pluit in Jakarta, and I would also like to thank all people concerned and those whom prayed for me.”
