Twelve years ago, Mr. Som (pseudonym) faced his first life-threatening challenge—pancreatic cancer. At that time, he chose Guangzhou Fuda Cancer Hospital and successfully conquered the disease. Twelve years later, when a new threat—prostate cancer—quietly emerged, this refined and composed Thai gentleman once again placed his full trust in Fuda without hesitation.

Cryoablation and Interventional Therapy: Breaking Through the Pancreatic Cancer Dilemma

In 2012, Mr. Som underwent surgical resection for pancreatic cancer in Thailand. However, due to the pancreas’s deep and complex location, the surgery failed to completely remove the cancer, and the tumor recurred within a year. “I must find a treatment that isn’t traditional surgery,” he decided, unwilling to endure the pain of another operation.

After extensive research, cryoablation caught his attention. Through online consultation, he made the resolute decision to seek treatment at Guangzhou Fuda Cancer Hospital. To his surprise, just one cryoablation procedure and four interventional treatments brought minimal discomfort and, over the next ten years, follow-up scans showed no signs of recurrence. It was a resounding victory in his first battle.

Wise Decisions Against Prostate Cancer

This April, a routine check-up disrupted the calm. His pancreas showed no major issues, but an elevated PSA (prostate-specific antigen) level raised concerns. MRI scans revealed a suspicious lesion in the prostate with a PI-RADS score of 4 (indicating a possible clinically significant cancer). Thai doctors recommended surgery, but Mr. Som immediately declined.

Believing firmly that cancer treatment requires specialized expertise, his daughter quickly reconnected with Fuda’s Thailand office using old contact details. In May, driven by the belief that “if I could survive such severe pancreatic cancer without much suffering, I can definitely overcome this too,” Mr. Som returned to Fuda for help once more.

“Bilateral peripheral zone nodules of the prostate, cannot rule out malignancy.” Faced with this special “old friend,” Fuda’s Department One assembled a team of experts and took the case seriously. Based on his medical history and diagnostic reports, the first priority was to confirm the nature of the tumor. A biopsy revealed poorly differentiated prostate adenocarcinoma (Stage IIB, T2N0M0) with a critical Gleason score of 4+3=7.

The Gleason score is one of the most important indicators in a prostate cancer pathology report. It is calculated as: primary pattern grade + secondary pattern grade (total score between 2 and 10). Mr. Som’s 4+3 score indicated:

  • More than 50% of tumor cells were Gleason grade 4;

  • 5–49% of tumor cells were Gleason grade 3;

  • Combined, this yielded a Gleason score of 7.

This score placed his prostate cancer in the intermediate-risk category, making treatment decisions especially critical. Although radical prostatectomy is considered the “gold standard,” Mr. Som strongly insisted on avoiding surgery and opting for a minimally invasive approach instead. After comprehensive assessment, the Fuda team respected his choice and successfully performed cryoablation for his prostate cancer.

Research has shown that cryoablation is suitable for early-stage prostate cancer patients, especially those in poor general condition, elderly or frail individuals, or those who cannot tolerate surgery or radiotherapy. Given its high safety profile and low complication rate, it can serve as an alternative for localized low- to intermediate-risk prostate cancer. Cryoablation can also be used for palliative treatment of metastatic prostate cancer or as a salvage therapy after radiotherapy or hormone therapy failure.

A Blueprint for Wellness and Recovery

“Except for temporarily needing a urine bag, I felt no discomfort after the treatment, and it hasn’t affected my normal activities.” Mr. Som has now completed treatment and returned to Thailand in stable condition. This admirable patient has shown extraordinary resilience over more than a decade in his fight against cancer. His journey is not only a testament to the power of advanced medical technology, but also a vivid example of proactive, holistic life management. He has developed a unique personal care system rooted in daily habits:

  • A Peaceful Mindset: Facing cancer calmly, without anxiety or fear, and embracing      challenges with grace.

  • Dietary Wisdom: He values balanced nutrition, adheres to a light diet, minimizes      greasy foods, and makes fresh fruits and vegetables the centerpiece of his      meals.

  • Balanced Activity: He exercises in accordance with his physical capacity, maintaining      consistency without overexertion.

  • Restorative Habits: He recognizes the importance of quality sleep and mental calm. He      maintains regular sleep patterns and uses soothing music to create a      peaceful healing environment.

Mr. Som’s story is a living miracle born of trust and medical expertise. It is also a vivid embodiment of personal wisdom, mental fortitude, and scientific care. For him, the fight against cancer is a marathon of resilience—and his unique wellness philosophy is the core force sustaining his steady pace forward.
