I have met patients whose treatment is very simple, yet they survive and live healthily.
There is a policeman in Shaoguan, Gunagdong. His nick name literally means “The Old Liver Cancer Guy” and his real name is Tan Youhau. In 2002, he had pain around the vicinity of liver. He went to a hospital in Guangzhou for examinations and was diagnosed with liver cancer. There was a tumor of 13 cm size in the right lobe of his liver with ascites. The serum bilirubin count had gone up and his AFP was more than 1000μg/l. His wife was diagnosed with colon cancer earlier and they had exhausted almost all their savings on surgery for the wife. Their house is at Shauguan, a less-developed area in Guangdong. Once he was admitted into our hospital he begged us to be lenient as he had no money. First, we treated him for hepatic artery thrombosis followed by cryosurgical ablation. Under such lenient-style treatment, Tan, a policeman, survives and this is the eighth year since he was first diagnosed with liver cancer.
