This August, as China marked its 8th annual Doctors’ Day, Fuda Cancer Hospital in Guangzhou held a series of meaningful and inspiring events to recognize the dedication of its medical professionals. With thoughtful planning and enthusiastic participation, the celebrations not only expressed deep respect for doctors but also strengthened team spirit and created a joyful, uplifting atmosphere across the hospital.
Knowledge Competition: A Battle of Wits
Doctors from departments across the hospital tested their knowledge and quick thinking in an intense quiz competition. Following challenging written preliminaries, four teams—Medical Departments I, III, IV, and Interventional Radiology—advanced to the finals.
The final round featured mandatory questions, quick-response challenges, and high-stakes risk rounds, keeping the audience on edge. Doctors demonstrated their solid expertise, quick reflexes, and collaborative spirit. In the end, Medical Department I claimed third place, Medical Department IV secured second, and Medical Department III won the championship.
This event not only showcased clinical knowledge but also fostered a culture of continuous learning, underscoring Fuda’s commitment to medical excellence and lifelong education.
Team-Building Party: Relax, Recharge, Reconnect
On August 16, Fuda’s labor union hosted a unique indoor team-building party to help doctors unwind after a demanding week of work.
Doctors arrived with enthusiasm and were quickly immersed in a warm, lively atmosphere—testing their aim in archery, belting out songs on the karaoke stage, teaming up on video games, and even engaging in friendly mahjong battles. Guided by professional coaches, participants also joined in creative group activities like code-breaking, tower building, and floor curling.
For a few hours, white coats were set aside. Laughter, music, and teamwork replaced the tension of hospital wards. This well-deserved “recharge” provided doctors with renewed energy for the vital mission ahead.
Commendation Ceremony: Celebrating Excellence
On August 19, the hospital hosted a grand commendation ceremony in its 7th-floor conference hall to recognize outstanding physicians for their contributions in clinical care, research, teaching, and service.
Vice President Xu Weizhong opened with reflections on the significance of Doctors’ Day: honoring the 4 million physicians who safeguard the health of China’s 1.4 billion people, fostering respect for the medical profession across society, and inspiring doctors to remain committed to their calling. He emphasized that only by upholding medical ethics and advancing skills can physicians better serve patients—a message that echoed this year’s theme, “Virtue in Action, Skill through Diligence.”
Assistant to the President Long Xinan then led new doctors in a solemn oath, pledging to “respect life, treat all with compassion, and put patients first.”
Inspiring speeches by distinguished physicians Shi Juanjuan (Deputy Director of Medical Department I) and Chen Anbo (Medical Department VI) followed, offering personal insights into the noble pursuit of medicine.
Finally, President Niu Lizhi highlighted that physicians are the backbone of the hospital. While medical science continues to evolve, he stressed that doctors must pursue ongoing learning to meet new challenges. He called on all medical staff to carry forward the spirit of “respecting life, saving lives, selfless dedication, and boundless love.” Those honored should continue striving for excellence, and all staff should draw inspiration from role models to strengthen their professional expertise and drive the hospital’s progress.
