Eight years ago, Mr. Han, Singaporean, has undergone cryosurgical ablation at Fuda Cancer Hospital. Last year, he joined the Super Brain contest in Singapore. In recent days, 84-year-old Mr. Han came back to our hospital for review and told us how to live with cancer.
Cancer should be treated at an early stage
In 2010, Mr. Han aged 76 suddenly felt urinary incontinence and prostate pain so he immediately went to a Singaporean public hospital for checkup. After examinations, the doctor told him that he might have cancer, and recommended that he be hospitalized. For further confirmation, Mr. Han went to another public hospital for an in-depth examination and finally he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Hearing the bad news, his family was depressed. Then Mr. Han was admitted to hospital at once where he began to receive cycles of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. However, these therapies didn’t stop the progress of cancer, and on the contrary caused great harm to his body and mind. At that time, he was no longer conversable or peaceful but irritable.
Fuda is like my family
Repeated chemotherapy and radiotherapy didn’t alleviate Mr. Han’s pain but made him weaker and weaker. Therefore, he had to stop all these treatments. His family got more anxious and depressed when seeing his getting thinner and thinner. But Mr. Han was the most helpless one. Luckily, his friend Dr. Dong told him that Fuda Cancer Hospital in China has advanced cryoablation technology. Mr. Han told the reporter, "Although public hospitals in Singapore can reimburse most expenses for the elderly, their cancer treatment is mainly radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Cryosurgical ablation is also available in Singapore, but it is not mature enough. So considering my friend’s recommendation, I searched the relevant information of Fuda Cancer Hospital on the Internet and found that many institutions and patients have praised its professionalism and reputation. Then I flew to Guangzhou Fuda Cancer Hospital with my wife and Dr. Dong. ”
After a long tiring journey, Mr. Han and his family arrived at Fuda. He received meticulous examinations here and then our medical personnel developed the most appropriate treatment plan for him according to the examination results and his medical history.
"Eight years ago, I underwent cryosurgical ablation and brachytherapy performed by Prof. Niu Lizhi, the chief surgeon from Fuda Cancer Hospital. After the surgery, my prostate cancer-related index dropped a lot. The symptoms of ostealgia and urinary incontinence were relieved. Soon I was discharged."
Minimally invasive treatment centre in Fuda Cancer Hospital, hosted by Dr. Niu Lizhi, features minimally-invasive cancer treatments such as Cryosurgical Ablation, Irreversible Electroporation and Cancer Vascular Intervention. Dr. Niu Lizhi and his team have performed over ten thousand cases of cryosurgery and made outstanding achievements in treating pancreatic cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, renal cancer, thyroid cancer, prostate cancer, abdominal cancer and other solid tumors.
Speaking of the eight years after treatment, Mr. Han said gratefully, “First of all, I’d like to thank Prof. Niu Lizhi and Prof. Liang Bing from Fuda Cancer Hospital for developing and implementing a professional surgical plan for my illness. Through their efforts, I have such a high quality life with cancer. Secondly, I’d like to thank Dr. Dong, my good friend. He recommended this hospital and escorted me here. Again, I’d like to thank all the medical personnel here because doctors here are very professional and nurses are very nice to me. They treat me like a friend. I’m quite satisfied with their responsible attitude!"
Living a colorful life with cancer for over 8 years
Before interview, the son of Mr. Han said, “I just wait outside. My father is pretty well now after cryosurgery so he can handle this totally on his own!” Truly, Mr. Han looks pretty good and doesn’t look like an 84-year-old man who lives with cancer for over 8 years.
"It is Fuda Cancer Hospital that brought me eight years of high quality life with cancer. In the past eight years, I lived a colorful life as other people did. I also participated in the Super Brain contest held in Singapore last year. Since I’m a contestant of advanced age and I’m also a cancer patient so I’m very happy to be able to get the ninth place in the contest!" Mr. Han told us excitedly while waiting for the photographer to set up the equipment," Cancer is not as scary as you think. The key is how to deal with it. Just like playing Tai Chi, we have to deal with it according to its 'tricks'."
Upon his leaving, Mr. Han gave some advice to all cancer patients, "Try not to smoke or drink. If you’re sick, please check it as soon as possible. If you have cancer, don't be afraid. Be optimistic. I hope the successful treatment case of my cancer can give positive energy to all of you and you’ll find that cancer can be controlled by a professional cancer hospital like Fuda Cancer Hospital, and your positive attitude and lifestyle!"
At the end of this interview, Mr. Han said that the medical treatments he received in Fuda Cancer Hospital makes him deeply realize the importance of choosing standardized diagnosis and treatment of cancer. Here, he sincerely hopes that cancer patients can recognize cancer in a scientific way and choose standardized and professional treatment.
