In June 12th, 2009, Dr. Kecheng Xu, Dr. David Chiu, and Dr. Ruan Run Sheng were invited to give a guest presentation on the new frontiers of cancer treatment at Jinan University. Jinan University is part of a small group of schools in China that teaches their courses exclusively in English, in order to prepare their students for an increasingly global and connected medical world. The students were a diverse and international mix of Indians, Chinese, and other Asian medical and health students. Dr. Xu was proud to bring along his international staff to show the importance of hiring the best international staff possible to accommodate the large number of overseas patients who visit Fuda every month: Dr. Chiu, American; Dr. Sheng, Singaporean; Philip Hy (president’s secretary), American.
The event focused on the very positive results Fuda Cancer Hospital-Guangzhou has had with therapies that go far beyond the traditional treatments of surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. Dr. Xu presented cases of his success (and some failures) during the last 15 years of his experience working with new cancer methods. He told his story of seeing so many hospitals do the exact treatment routines. As a result, he started his own hospital. Despite a relatively short history, Fuda’s reputation has spread quickly throughout the medical field, and patients with good results have shared their stories around the world. Dr. Xu talked about breaking the bold of conventional cancer thinking and investing research in innovative approaches such as cryotherapy.
Dr. Chiu and Dr. Sheng emphasized the growing role that immunotherapy and biological therapies have in boosting the body's natural immune system and avoiding the toxicity of chemotherapy, which often does as much harm as it does good. Using the body's own system to slow, shrink, and sometimes defeat cancer is one of the most encouraging fields of cancer research. Many prominent oncologists and researchers are increasingly believing that chemotherapy and radiation have reached an end; there will no longer be any major advancements in the use of chemo and radiation to treat cancer.
At end of the event, Dr. Xu warmly invited all the students and professor in attendance to visit the hospital. He offered internships for any outstanding students, and promised a tour if they decide to visit.
